Happy Birthday, Baby Boy!

Submitted on Jul 6, 2011 by  katie06

Four years ago today, I gave birth to a wonderful, beautiful, baby boy.  That little boy saved my life.  I had no idea that I was HIV positive.  None.

It was a routine test at the OB/GYN that changed my life.  I have HIV. After being diagnosed, I read everything I could on HIV.  I educated myself as much as I could and I followed medical advise perfectly.   I never missed a dose of medication, I ate healthier than I have ever eaten in my life and I chose to have a c-section because I had read that it reduced the risk of transmission between mother and child.

Thanks to my easily accessible healthcare benefits through my job.  Thanks to the college degree which helped me obtain such a good job and thanks to my parents who insisted on a college education.

Thanks to the medication which helped prevent transmission.  Thanks to the doctors and nurses who guided me.  And most importantly, thanks to God.  I had and still have an HIV negative baby boy….a happy, healthy, beautiful baby boy.  I am blessed.

As you can see, God has a plan.  His plan is often not understood until later.  But as you look back, you realize that a series of events have guided you to the place you are today.  This series of events were clearly led with an overall purpose.

Ncoooo cute. Happy birthday to your baby boy, nice i have found a husband for my baby girl, but she's 5 this November, but hey age is just a number, right mummy..LOL...*jokes*...Happy birthday to him again, wishing you and myself many more healthy years to enjoy our childrens growth...as much as they are naughty handful species, they sure are a great blessing, wish i could have 1more, a boy, but in South Africa you only given once that Nevirapine pill, which prevents mother to child infection, but have accepted the idea of just one child and loving it.

kate, congratulations to you and your son.I am so proud of positive mothers who take the steps to ensure that their babies are uninfected. I too am a positive mother to a 4 month old baby girl. We got her results 2 weeks ago,she is negative. I am absolutely thrilled and relieved. These babies are true miracles!

Refilwe,i feel you dear. I too wanted to have two kids .I have a 4 month daughter she's negative but 'm not sure if i'm strong enough emotionaly to go through that process again.I live next door to you in Zimbabwe and i went to a private doc so i did the AZT during pregnancy, ceaserean birth, 6 weeks AZT for my daughter and no breastfeeding. Which was tough to explain when you are still in the closet.I'm still feeling strain with affording formula but getting my daughters results 2 weeks ago was worth all the stress.Just not sure if i'm able to do it again but would love to a boy.LOL.All the best
