I am thrilled to share that I've been awarded a scholarship from Positive Women's Network as State Lead for West Virginia to attend the upcoming Positive Living Conference at The Island Resort in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, happening September 20 - 22. This is a special honor for me, as this conference is one of the most impactful events for individuals living with HIV, because it promises to be a space meant for empowering, connecting, as well as leaving with a feeling of healing and profound peace – something our community needs far more of, in my opinion.
What is the Positive Living Conference?
The Positive Living Conference is a three-day event for and by HIV-positive people, designed to foster a strong sense of community, empowerment, and learning. Held annually in Florida, this conference brings together a diverse group of attendees—95% of whom are HIV-positive—with the goal of sharing knowledge, advocacy tools, and personal stories of resilience.
Key aspects of the conference include:
HIV-centered Seminars: 100% of the workshops and sessions are focused on HIV-related issues, with 85% of presenters being HIV-positive themselves. Topics range from healthcare advocacy and policy to personal wellness and mental health.
AIDS Memorial Quilt and Heart Circle: One of the most moving parts of the conference is the Heart Circle ceremony on Saturday, where we honor those lost to AIDS. Panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt are displayed, offering a moment of reflection and unity.
A Family Reunion for Many: For countless attendees, this conference feels like a family reunion. Bonds are formed across all demographic lines, creating a space of support, love, and shared experience.
This conference is more than just educational—it's a chance to live positively in every sense of the word, and I am excited to connect with others who share this journey.
Who is the Positive Women's Network?
Positive Women's Network - USA (PWN-USA) is a national organization driven by women and transgender people living with HIV. Their mission is to empower women and trans individuals with HIV to advocate for their rights and drive policy change. PWN-USA believes in leadership by people living with HIV and works to dismantle stigma while promoting social justice and gender equality.
As a PWN-USA State Lead individuals are the critical connection between the national organization and their local HIV communities. They mobilize advocacy efforts, facilitate two-way communication between their communities and PWN-USA, and support grassroots organizing.
If you're a woman, nonbinary person, or trans individual living with HIV, and you're passionate about making a difference in HIV advocacy, consider joining PWN-USA. It's a chance to drive change, support others, and amplify the voices of those living with HIV.
Why This Matters
The Positive Living Conference and the work of organizations like the Positive Women's Network are vital for building resilience and creating change. Being able to attend this conference is not just an opportunity for personal growth—it's a chance to strengthen our collective voice and advocate for a world where people with HIV can live fully and freely without stigma.
I am deeply grateful for the scholarship that has made this possible, and I can't wait to share my experiences with all of you when I return!
Thank you!
Thank you so much?
