Ms. Plus America

Submitted on Aug 15, 2011 by  katie06

I just read a blog about Ms. Plus America being HIV positive.  I must say that I am so proud of her.  For starters, I'm both plus size and HIV positive,  so It's nice to read about more people like myself.

Michelle Anderson, crowned Ms. Plus America 2011, is a beautiful, plus size, African-American woman.  She is the first openly HIV-positive person to hold a national pageant title.  From reading her bio, she appears to do a lot of HIV/AIDS related activism in her community, Dallas, Texas.

It's an honor to see such a woman not only succeeding but also educating her community and tearing down stigma.  I'm envious of her willingness to share her story so openly.  While I also share my story, I'm able to do so behind a keyboard.  She, on the other hand, is in front of the world to see.  Congratulations and good luck Ms. Plus America!

I just got wind of the blog. All i can say is "WOW!" Thank you so much for this honor. I appreciate that. I entered the pageant to raise awareness and ens the shame associated with this disease. I am glad women are empowered by my story. I hope more women will become empowered to speak out and tell their stories. We can all end this epidemic one story at a time. My hats off to you! Keep doin watcha doin and know i'm rooting for you!
