Hugging - It’s so simple, it’s free, it just requires you to stretch out your arms and squeeze!
I love hugging, I’m a hugger. I love getting hugs, and I love giving hugs. I think the energy shared is powerful. I wasn’t always a hugger. My family isn’t really huggers either. They just aren’t. I remember in school (I was a terrible teenager, I was probably very un-huggable to most people) a classmate walked up to me and gave me a huge bear hug. I cried. I couldn’t remember that last time I had been hugged, and it felt SO good. I decided that day that I would be a hugger. Parents, no matter how unhuggable your teenager may seem, give them hugs anyway, they need them!!!
Several years ago, I had a homeless man approach me and ask for money. I’ve made it a rule not to worry about how money is being spent, and I give whenever I can. I asked if there was anything else I could help him with he asked for a hug, and said it had been a really long time since he’d been hugged. How terrible is that? I was totally blown away. It’s so simple, it’s free, it just requires you to stretch out your arms a squeeze. I just hug everyone now, I even hug people that don’t want to be hugged. It’s been awkward maybe once (and that’s okay), most times people just give in and accept the hug, some even return it.
There have been studies done about hugging. There are some real substantial medical benefits to hugging. I really liked this article, "The Health Benefits of Hugging". Check it out here. Then read "Hugging is The Most Beautiful Form of Communication" here for more information on the topic!
Let’s all hug a little more, heaven knows we all need it!!!
