PhyllisTien

Phyllis Tien is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She is a Principal Investigator of the Northern California site of the Women's Interagency HIV Study (WIHS), which is the largest and longest running prospective cohort of the progression of HIV infection in women in the US. She serves as the Chair of the WIHS Executive Committee, co-Chair of the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (MACS)-WIHS Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS) Steering Committee and is an active member of the MWCCS Metabolic, Vascular and Liver Working Groups. She is currently Chair of the Inter-CFAR Collaboration on HIV Research in Women and a member of the Department of Health and Human Services Antiretroviral Guidelines Panel and the VA HCV Treatment Considerations Panel. She has also served as Chair of the NIH AIDS Clinical Epidemiology (ACE) Study Section. She completed her medical degree at the University of California, San Diego, medical residency and fellowship in Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine at Stanford University and a second fellowship in AIDS Prevention Studies at UCSF.   Her research examines the contribution of HIV, HCV and associated perturbations in metabolic parameters and markers of inflammation to chronic co-morbidities in women and men living withand at risk for HIV.
