I tested positive for HIV when I was 25, in April of 2017, which dramatically changed my life in both good and bad ways. I have been undetectable for about as long, this status definitely has inspired me to be more educated with my health and well-being. It was a long lonely journey toward acceptance for the first 3 years. I developed an addiction to alcohol for the first 2, that I gradually grew out of for the last few years. I’ve been sober for about a year now. The stigma has been a struggle that I am still learning how to navigate emotionally. I’m very proud of how far I’ve come with therapy and hope. I am grateful for the friends and family I have been able to disclose my status to and receive support and encouragement.
Aside from my story, I love everything to do with maintaining a household, designing clothing, making art, dancing, quality time with loved ones, being a mom, and listening to audio books.
I would really benefit from connecting with more moms in Phoenix. I just had my first child and have experienced the stigma at every turn. I’m hoping to connect with moms in Phoenix who might be able to refer me to OB’s and Pediatricians that are experienced and respectful about my status.
