Helen Zimba is a Dallas based, international HIV and reproductive justice leader. Helen's professional background encompasses both business management and communications, as well as extensive experience in the field of community health, specifically HIV. Over the past 20 years Helen has served on the grant review committee for the Health Resources and Services Administration, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the National Institutes of Health. She has also served as a board member and trainer for AIDS Alliance, chairperson for the HIV Planning Council and is an active member of the Positive Women's Network-USA. Helen is a dedicated volunteer to several causes, including mission work to Malawi with her church, assisting with AIDS Walk South Dallas, and many Texas Black Women's Initiatives. Currently, Helen is the HIV Program Manager at The Afiya Center, the only Reproductive Justice organization in North Texas founded and directed by Black women. Helen has been successful at developing and executing impactful HIV programming, establishing meaningful relationships with traditional and nontraditional partners, and identifying program gaps with providers using the RJ framework. She is also a GLOW Graduate and Escalate by NMAC, and participant in the AIDS United Training Program.
Helen is the recipient of numerous awards, such as the AIDS Alliance GiGi Nicks Leadership Award, Neighborhood Hero recipient by WFAA Television, and Women that Soar. In 2018, she presented solutions for creating access and navigating services for Black women at the Texas HIV/STD Conference. Helen's dedication to advocating to end the stigma and isolation plaguing women living with HIV, has led her to be selected to participate in the national Love Your Life Campaign.
