Abosede Olotu is an HIV advocate and activist from Lagos, Nigeria. She was diagnosed with HIV in 2000 and began working with The Well Project in 2011 as a member of our Global Women's Task Force. She also blogs for A Girl Like Me and is the proud mother of three beautiful, HIV-negative children.
Trained as a counselor and a peer educator, Abosede has worked in HIV for more than a decade. During that time, she has provided services for orphans, vulnerable children, women and families. She is especially focused on young women, and believes that empowerment and access to information are the best prevention tools. She has applied her courage and unique spirit to ensure that her fellow treatment activists have access to the most current information and research, as well as the support they need to continue to thrive in such a demanding field. She is dedicated to sharing her experiences with others in an effort to reduce stigma and provide encouragement for HIV-positive women around the world.
Currently, Abosede works as a trained and experienced counselor on HIV/AIDS at the National Call Center in Abjua, a project under the National Agency for the control of AIDS in Nigeria. There she provides her callers with up-to-date information and refers those who choose to know their HIV status to providers, as well as counsels both those who are positive and negative on making an informed decisions about their behaviors. Her role there gives her the opportunity to reach a larger population.
