The Southern Black Policy and Advocacy Network, Inc.(SBPAN) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the mission of improving health outcomes and reducing social, and economic disparities impacting Black communities in the U.S. South. The mission of the organization is accomplished through training, education, advocacy, and mobilization. In 2018, SBPAN launched the Southern Black HIV/AIDS Network to expand the capacity of Black leaders and HIV advocates to impact federal, state, and local HIV policy, programs, and research for diverse populations of Black communities in the U.S. South living with and impacted by HIV/AIDS.

The Southern Black HIV/AIDS Network operates to mobilize a movement rooted in the meaningful participation of those most impacted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic, principally those who are same gender loving (SGL), lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT), youth, women, and persons over the age of 55 of Black communities in the U.S. South, that will impact policy, programs, and practice, as well as create opportunities for shared resources and information exchange.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Program Associate supports SBPAN’s strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of the Black health equity social and economic justice movement by providing highly skilled operational leadership, project management and event planning for the organization’s Southern Black HIV/AIDS Network. The incumbent will support the Chief Executive Officer to achieve seamless quality control, budgeting, program delivery and program management.

The Program Associate employs diverse communication strategies, i.e. social media, Emarketing, and technical assistance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Executing strategic communication plan;
  • Sourcing health-focused content for dissemination through media outlets;
  • Participating in and developing coalition-building and community mobilization activities;
  • Writing white papers;
  • Advocating for health policy initiatives;
  • Ensuring timely reporting of deliverables to funders.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop advocacy tools to enhance;
  • Maintain SBPAN’s communication platforms;
  • Create educational documents, and content for SBPAN website;
  • Track and research key health policy and legislative issues;
  • Support development of relevant policy analyses;
  • Performing other duties as required.

OTHER:

This exempt position is based in Dallas, Texas and requires moderate travel – less than 21 days per year and has a salary of $35,000. There are no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or three years of relevant experience;
  • Minimum one year of administrative experience;
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills;
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional project & time management skills;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
