Webinar with authors of "Defeating AIDS-Advancing Global Health" - September 1, 2015

September 1, 2015

1500 CET

UAIDS will be hosting a webinar on Tuesday, 1 September, 1500 CET with Professor Salim Karim and Nancy Mahon to discuss the UNAIDS-Lancet Commission report, "Defeating AIDS-Advancing Global Health." The report appeared in the Lancet this June and is available here.

Dr. Karim is Vice-Chancellor at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Nancy Mahon is Executive Director of the MAC AIDS Fund. Both were involved in preparing the report.

The report declares that, "the question is no longer whether the fight against AIDS can be won; the only questions are: will it be won - and when?" It makes a series of recommendations including to mobilize additional resources, improve accountability, forge new paths to uphold human rights, reinforce leadership and engagement of people living with HIV, and invest in research and innovation.

The report is very strong in supporting investments in advocacy, calling activism "a global public good." And it calls for the world to be ambitious to drive down HIV incidence, mortality and stigma -- and ultimately end the epidemic -- at a pivotal time in the global discussion about global health investment and development priorities.

After short presentations from Dr. Karim and Ms. Mahon the webinar will be open for discussion by all.

Registration is required. To register please write advocacy@unaids.org.
