A Girl Like Me blogger Porchia Dees featured in the opening night celebration of "Through Positive Eyes: Our Photos | Our HIV Stories"

Photography, video, and live storytelling components produced by people living with HIV and AIDS offer intimate access to everyday and extraordinary life moments from their perspectives. Their artistic statements are powerful tools for combating stigma, one of the most formidable barriers to fighting the epidemic.

Lecture with Cocurator David Gere: 6–7pm

David Gere is Director of UCLA’s Art and Global Health Center and Professor of World Arts and Cultures at UCLA. Gere reflects on 12 years of Through Positive Eyes workshops around the world and the compelling body of portraits and videos by individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Following his introduction, there will be live storytelling performances by members of the Los Angeles Through Positive Eyes Collective—artivists (artist-activists) who will share their experiences living with HIV.

Opening Party: 7–9pm

Enjoy the opening reception with a live DJ set by Funk Fiction. Artivists will continue storytelling performances in the final gallery of Through Positive Eyes at 7:30pm, 8pm, and 8:30pm. RSVP at TPELA.eventbrite.com
