Lifetime Survivors of HIV

There are many thousands of adults living with HIV today who acquired HIV at birth or as young children. They are lifetime survivors of HIV (also known as Dandelions) – with issues that are similar to older long-term survivors who have lived with HIV since its earliest days, as well as their own unique concerns.

Hearts and Minds of The Well Project is a storytelling project that shines a spotlight on some of the extraordinary individuals who have been instrumental over the past 20 years in making The Well Project the organization it is today.

Learn from advocates about how they have initiated conversations about HIV prevention and awareness with youth in their communities, tips for when to begin talking with children, and more.

The world's leading HIV science meeting took place virtually yet again in February 2022, and three of The Well Project's Community Advisory Board members were in attendance.

Listen to three women living with HIV as they cover topics including the dramatic impact of HIV treatment, important social issues that don't always get enough attention in the conversation around HIV/AIDS, and what aging truly means to them.

The premiere episode of A Girl Like Me LIVE featured an important conversation among four women long-term HIV survivors in honor of HIV Long-Term Survivors' Day and the 40th anniversary of HIV – both on June 5, 2021.

To observe National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (#NWGHAAD), we presented As We See It: Wisdom and the Unique Experiences of Women Born with HIV – an interactive session led by women who grew up living with HIV.

Given that we are in February, which is not only Black History month but also the month of LOVE, I felt compelled to share this message with y'all.

As everyone who already follows me knows, my perspective on contracting the virus is really different from someone who may not have been living with it for their entire lives. Being that I don't know a life without HIV, my perspective may be a bit unorthodox.

I was 11 years old when my mother and sister finally told me my mom had AIDS, my father had AIDS and I was born HIV+.

Growing up in the hood in South West Atlanta was one of the hard things for me, especially being HIV-positive.

Porchia Dees was born HIV positive in 1986 in San Bernardino, CA. At the time there were no HIV medical specialists in her area so she had to be transferred all the way to Children’s Hospital, Los Angeles, where she received pediatric HIV medical care. Her pediatrician didn’t think she would live to...

The Office of Women's Health picked me for one of the ambassadors for National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. That is on March 10 every year so it's tomorrow. There are lots of ambassadors, a group of us.

The Well Project interviews Ieshia Scott, Community Advisory Board member and A Girl Like Me blogger, for our "Spotlight: Women Making a Difference" series.

August 1st will be my 25th anniversary of positively living with HIV! It hasn't always been a positive experience but I can now say I am very happy with my positive status.
