WATCH Webinar: Taking Care: Understanding and Addressing Mental Health Among Women Living with HIV - March 9, 2016

Wednesday, March 9, 2016
3:00 - 4:30 pm ET

As many of you know, March 10th is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD), an annual observance highlighting the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls in the United States. It's an important opportunity for all of us to focus on how HIV/AIDS continues to significantly affect women and girls. The theme for this year's NWGHAAD is "The #BestDefense is a Good Offense" and we are proud to partner on NWGHAAD for the 3rd year running.

In honor of NWGHAAD, The Well Project is proud to announce the first of our 2016 Women's Advocacy and Treatment Coalition on HIV (WATCH!) series entitled, Taking Care: Understanding and Addressing Mental Health Among Women Living with HIV. The webinar will take place one day in advance of NWGHAAD on Wednesday, March 9 from 3:00 - 4:30 pm ET. Speakers will include Vickie Lynn, community advisory board member for The Well Project and a doctoral student in Public Heath, specializing in Behavioral Health, and Edward Machtinger, MD, professor of medicine and director of the Women's HIV Program at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

The webinar will address the following:

  • Provide an overview of mental health issues affecting women living with HIV
  • Describe the impact of mental health on health outcomes
  • Highlight the importance of comprehensive care that goes beyond HIV disease to include trauma, depression, substance use, and current or past violence
