Wake Up Pune at Pune, Maharashtra

Launched in November 2006, the Wake Up Pune initiative is a concentrated effort to make Pune aware of the HIV epidemic that faces this city. Wake Up Pune aims to increase awareness in the larger community, and also to foster a new attitude about HIV in Pune. Pune is the second largest city in Maharashtra, with a growing population of more than 40 lakhs (4 million). It ranks among the top five HIV prevalence cities in the state.

For the past couple of years, volunteers wearing ‘HIV POSITIVE’ T-shirts have become a common sight in the city. By wearing these T-shirts, volunteers identify themselves as part of the solution in tackling stigma surrounding HIV, rather than being part of the problem. T-shirts will be made freely available to people who want to take the lead in educating society about HIV and AIDS.

Their HIV BOOTCAMP gives you the knowledge and skills to set up your own awareness projects with friends or colleagues and become part of the Wake Up Pune movement. From learning about HIV transmission and prevention to putting your awareness ideas into action, HIV BOOTCAMP will give you the practical skills to become an active campaigner.
